DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for verifying the genuineness of an email by using an electronic signature. When DomainKeys Identified Mail is activated for a certain domain, a public key is published to the global DNS system and a private one is stored on the mail server. If a new email message is sent, a signature is issued using the private key and when the email message is received, that signature is verified by the incoming POP3/IMAP server using the public key. Thus, the receiver can easily distinguish if the message is legitimate or if the sender’s email address has been forged. A mismatch will appear if the content of the email has been changed in the meantime as well, so DKIM can also be used to make sure that the sent and the delivered email messages are identical and that nothing has been attached or removed. This email validation system will increase your email security, as you can confirm the authenticity of the important email messages that you get and your partners can do likewise with the emails that you send them. Depending on the given mail service provider’s policies, an email message that fails the test may be deleted or may be delivered to the recipient’s mailbox with a warning.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Web Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is pre-activated for all domain names that are hosted in a web hosting account on our cloud website hosting platform, so you will not have to do anything on your end to enable it. The sole condition is that the particular domain name should be hosted in a website hosting account on our platform using our NS and MX records, so that the email messages will go through our mail servers. The private cryptographic key will be created on the server and the TXT resource record, which contains the public key, will be published to the global DNS system automatically, so you will not need to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this functionality. The DomainKeys Identified Mail authentication system will enable you to send trustable e-mail messages, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for example, your email messages will always reach their target viewers, whereas unsolicited 3rd parties will not be able to spoof your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our Linux semi-dedicated hosting come with DomainKeys Identified Mail activated by default, so if you choose this type of hosting and you add a domain name using our name servers via your Hepsia Control Panel, the records required for the email validation system will be created automatically – a private encryption key on our email servers for the electronic signature and a TXT resource record carrying the public key for the global DNS database. Since the DKIM protection is set up for a given domain, all email addresses created under it will have a signature, so you will not have to worry that the email messages that you send may not be delivered to their target email address or that somebody may fake any of your email addresses and try to spam/scam people. This may be quite important in case you use email communication in your business, as your partners and/or clients will be able to distinguish real email messages from false ones.
